There are several crucial considerations when hiring a voiceover talent for medical narration. What is the scope and depth of their knowledge and experience? Will they record at an outside studio, or do they have their own broadcast facility? Who will be responsible for that cost? Who will be in charge of audio editing? Are they more at ease with long-form narrations, or are they comfortable with projects that are five minutes or less?
You can do a plethora of things to improve your chances of finding the perfect talent and listen to previous samples of their work. On a side note, certain non-disclosure agreements (NDA) prohibit voice performers from publicly disclosing their work, although they may be able to offer a private link.
1. Check out the voice actor’s website (if he/she has any) for voiceover audio samples and medical video clips of their previous work. Pay attention to nuances like pronunciation, articulation, energy modulation, and tone to add interest and expressiveness. After verifying these, you can move on to the next step.
2. Get a recommendation from a reliable source. It could be your peers or coworkers at your company. You can also count on your trusted voice actor to refer you to a colleague of his who specializes in medical narration expert. Nothing is more reliable than a word-of-mouth recommendation of any brand or service. In a recent study, 64% of the people agreed that they believe word of mouth is the most effective form of marketing a service/product.
3. Request references. A true VO pro arrives prepared to make your job easy and your production shine. When speaking with a voice actor’s prior clients, inquire how effectively they followed directions. Did they make it on time or ahead of schedule? How successfully did they work together on the project? Did they ask you questions to learn more about your objectives? Did they catch any errors, if any? Were they a good addition to your team?
4. What kind of preparation does the voice actor go through? Medical content is by its very nature cognitively demanding, necessitating someone willing to roll up their sleeves to learn the subject. The script must be reviewed and rehearsed repeatedly to ensure that any pronunciation, syntax, or meaning issues are handled ahead of time. Inquire about the voiceover artist’s workflow procedure. The way they prepare before a session reveals a lot about what to expect during the meeting.
5. Choose a voice according to your target market. Keeping in mind the nationality of your target audience is also a good idea. For instance, if you wish to make videos for an American audience, it’s wise to go with a voice actor with a strong American accent.
